WEATHER CHANGES

Please check your e-mail or phone on the day of the hike for messages from us. Sometimes the weather gets in the way of a safe hike, and we need to re-schedule or cancel it on short notice. In such a case, we will notify you via text (SMS) and e-mail to the number and address you have provided us upon booking. The weather forecast changes quickly, so there is no point in checking several weeks in advance. Let us worry about that!

Note that the helicopter cannot fly in poor weather. If this is the case and the hike is still safe, this will be a regular Kjerag Summer Hike. You will then be refunded the extra money which would cover the cost of the helicopter transport.

We offer a uniqe and limited summer experience for our guests! Hike up to Kjerag and visit the boulder, then climb into a helicopter and get airlifted back down!

Join an early-morning summer hike to the famous Kjerag boulder, and enjoy the spectacular Lysefjord. Marvel as basejumpers leap from the sheer massif. Then, instead of hiking down like everybody else, we get to ride on a helicopter, back down off the mountain. Talk about luxury!

Your journey begins early-morning when your professional guide picks you up at your preferred meeting place. While being transported to the trail-head, you’ll be able to catch glimpses of some of Norway’s stunning landscapes. We drive for about 3 hours, onward to the Eagle’s Nest trail-head. Before the crowds of tourists have begun to arrive, you’ll be well on your way up to the Kjerag boulder. During the 2.5-hour hike to the boulder, you’ll encounter 3 periods of steep climbing interspersed with 2 shallow valleys. Along the way, you’ll enjoy views of the village of Lysebotn, which is situated at the head of the Lysefjord. The final 2 kilometers leading up to the Kjerag boulder are relatively flat and will allow you to focus more on the spectacular nature around you.

Once you reach the edge of the mountain’s plateau, while standing on a 1000-meter-high cliff, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of the 42-kilometer-long Lysefjord. Cliff-side, you’ll have plenty of time to rest and enjoy your packed lunch. If you’re among the brave, you’ll have the opportunity to stand atop the Kjerag boulder.

Base-jumping is legal in Norway, so if you’re lucky, you’ll get to watch as daredevils hurdle themselves off the side of the cliff. After the lunch break, your guide will lead you towards the plateau the base jumpers are.

As helicopters bring base jumpers up to the cliff to defy gravity, we will hop onboard before the helicopter as it prepares to fly back down again from the mountain top. The ride down is jaw-dropping, and a welcome change of effort from hiking all the way to the top! We land in the tiny village of Lysebotn, and get transported up to the parking area. We get back in the guide car, and the guide takes you back to Stavanger.
