Join an early-morning hike to the famous Kjerag boulder, and enjoy the spectacular Lysefjord outside the summer season.

Witness Norway’s bright green -and sometimes snowy- wilderness as it awakens after the long, cold winter. Or, see the autumn colours and breathe the crisp air after summer has passed. Experience the silent serenity of hiking in small groups while enjoying panoramic views of some of the most dramatic scenery Fjord-Norway has to offer.

Your journey begins early-morning when your professional guide picks you up at your preferred meeting place . While being transported to the trail-head, you’ll be able to catch glimpses of some of Norway’s stunning landscapes. We drive for about 3 hours, onward to the Eagle’s Nest trail-head (one can speculate it got its name because it sits a lofty 640 meters above sea level). Before the crowds of tourists have begun to arrive, you’ll be well on your way up to the Kjerag boulder. The climb is challenging for most, but the last 2 kilometers before reaching the Kjerag boulder are relatively flat and will allow you to focus more on the beautiful nature around you. Once you reach the edge of the massif, while standing on a 1000-meter-high cliff, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of the 42-kilometer-long Lysefjord. You’ll then have time to relax while eating lunch near the Kjerag Boulder.

If you dare (and conditions allow), stand atop the Kjerag boulder, which hangs a heart-stopping 984 meters above the fjord. Hike in small groups and enjoy the panoramic views of some of the most dramatic scenery Fjord-Norway has to offer. If hiking in spring, you should expect the possibility of snow conditions while hiking to Kjerag. As needed, your professional guide will provide you with hiking poles and crampons.

After the lunch break, your guide will lead you back down to the Eagle’s Nest, which takes about 3 hours. All in all, this is a demanding 6 hour, 12 kilometer hike with a total ascent of 800 meters.
