The roar of the waterfall at Mån is quite a sight to behold! Make this your quick getaway from Stavanger, or as part of a more extensive stay in the region!

Do you have a limited amount of time in Stavanger but would like to experience Norway’s pristine nature AND unique cultural heritage in a single day? Join Explore Lysefjorden on a private tour into Fjord Norway’s glacier-carved mountains, enjoy a tranquil 2.5-hour hike to the highest waterfall in southwestern Norway, and visit some of the region’s unique cultural landmarks.

Månafossen waterfall, which is fed by the Mån river, plunges 92 meters into the canyon below. The force of the waterfall, which is flanked by steep granite walls, produces a dazzling display of mist and rainbows. As it is almost inaccessible by public transportation, the waterfall remains relatively unknown, even among locals, making it a true hidden gem for tourists.

Your professional guide will meet you at the time and location you selected when booking. During the hour-long drive into the mountains, your guide will navigate through a variety of landscapes, including pastures, meadows, green valleys, and fjords. Once at the trailhead, you’ll be briefed before starting your hike. The first leg of the hike, up to the waterfall, takes approximately 45 minutes (one-way), and is steep at times. Stairs and locally-sourced stone pave the way, helping to make the hike less difficult. Your guide will maintain a relaxed pace up the trail, and then give you ample time to enjoy the beauty of Månafossen.

After the rest, if time allows, you’ll continue hiking upstream to visit the green valley of Fidjadal, which takes approximately 45 minutes (one-way). There, you’ll take another short break at the deserted mountain farm of Mån, which was inhabited until 1915. It’s a great place to enjoy a warm drink and a snack while taking in the serenity of the Norwegian wilderness. After the break, your guide will lead you back down to the trailhead, and back to Stavanger.

If you would like to add additional experiences to the hike (e.g. yoga, RIB safari, beer-tasting etc.), or to customise the tour even more, check out our Tailored Private Experience!
