Do you want to hike to Preikestolen during the day, but without being surrounded by large crowds? Do you want to experience the untamed nature of the mountains in peace? We hike off the beaten track; a path that only the locals know about, and it even includes a canoe ride! Our guide is ready to take you on the definitive day-hike to Norway’s most iconic rock formation!

The day starts with being picked up by our guide from one of several designated locations in Stavanger. After a 40-minute drive, we arrive at Preikestolen Basecamp (where restrooms are available). We pick up packed lunches (included in the price), life vests and canoe ores, and walk down to the beach of the lake, Revsvatnet. Here the guide will provide instructions about safe canoeing, information about the trail, expected conditions, and useful tips for good hiking. When everyone is ready, the adventure begins. We paddle across the lake, make our way onto shore, and hike along an old and forgotten trail. It was rediscovered by a local pioneering guide of the region (our guide’s mentor), and we have it almost entirely to ourselves! The pace allows for time to adjust clothes and equipment, time to rest and enjoy snacks, and for taking pictures along the way.

After approximately 3 hours of hiking, we will arrive at Preikestolen, 604 meters right above the legendary Lysefjorden. The sheer cliff face overlooks the fjord, and the panoramic view before us makes for a fantastic reward after all the work it took to get there.

After we have enjoyed the scenery and relaxed for a while, we head back down. It normally takes about 2.5 hours to get back down to the parking area. Exhausted but satisfied, we get back in the car. As we get driven back to Stavanger, we process our experience of a day well spent.

We hiked the Secret Trail up to Preikestolen yesterday with Allen as our guide. The hike starts with a short canoe paddle across an alpine lake and then we took to a beautiful forest trail that climbed steeply up! After a while, we reached a rocky area where the hike continued upwards taking us above Preikestolen to even more dramatic views before dropping down to the famous outlook. During the most of the hike we saw no other people (compared to the hoards on the main trail). It was stunning! It was also significantly longer and more challenging than the regular path – but so worth it! Allen was terrific and we had the pleasure of another guide, Terry, accompanying us who was familiarizing himself with this alternative way up. Both guides were professional and took great care of us. I can’t imagine visiting this popular location (which is breathtaking) any other way!

We had an unforgettable experience on the hidden trail hike to Pulpit Rock with our guide, Stefan. He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure we felt safe during the more challenging parts of the hike. Stefan also kindly offered to take pictures for us, which was much appreciated! The views along the trail were absolutely breathtaking, and the best part was that we had the entire trail to ourselves—unlike the crowded usual route. Starting the adventure with a canoe ride was such a unique and peaceful way to kick things off. Overall, this hike was one of the highlights of our trip, and I can’t recommend it enough!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! The hike was great but the tour guide is the true gem! If I can give 10 stars to Allan I would. He is very kind, friendly and he truly is passionate about his job. Even if I don’t know how to swim, he took care of me and made me feel safe in the canoe. Words are not enough to thank him! He set the bar high and if I had more time in Stavanger, I would have book a different hike with him as a guide. His dog is amazing too! My only regret was I wasn’t able to cash out NOK so I felt really bad for not tipping. Thank you again Allan and baba! The unbeatable guide combo!

On the 1st of August we went with Erlend and his lovely dog Baba on a hike. We had enough stops for a drink or take a breath while we we’re climbing uphill. When needed he helped you. His knowedge about the nature is excellent and he knows the right places for taking photos. Baba joins the photo if you want that and our children loved planning with Baba during the hike. Our kids didnt complain at all about the hike (length or distance). Together with the walk on the glacier this was their (and our) favorite! Besides that the environment is beautiful. As group we decided ‘to skip’ Preikestolen, because it was so crowded. The hike itself was more beautifull, specilialy during lunchtime, with an excellent view on the fjord! We enjoyed the silence and hardly had seen any other persons. If you want to avoid all the crowds, this is definity the hike you should do!! We all (also our kids agenda 11&13) recomment this hike, it’s a 10 out of 10
